PITY OR COMPASSION: WHICH IS BETTER?

PITY OR COMPASSION: WHICH IS BETTER?
(By Latunde Akin)
My wife was pregnant of our twin girls and my parent felt they should assist with finances since I ost my good job on my wedding day.
Out of pity they travelled to visit so they can motivate me to buy children things before birth of the children. So they extended their good hands to give me this bundle of money.
To a normal wired person, the next thing is to collect it.
I didn't actually collect it. I told them straightaway that I can't collect it. That they should keep their money.
I asked them if it's their own parents that bought children things for them during their time? They answered no. Then why wouldn't they allow me to buy my children things by myself without any assistance? They looked at me with amazement and left.
You see,I have come to understand a particular principle of help. That's why you don't see me accepting any kind of help.
I rejected my parent's gift of money not because I didn't need it. Not because I wanted to disrespect them. But because I understood that they were doing it out of pity.
Principle of help states that any help done to you out of pity would make your soul lean and not fat.
Any help done to you because of pity will not become a blessing to you and the giver.
Any help done to you because of pity has high probability of sending you back into a comfort zone where your own creative ability is limited or put in a relaxed mode.
Help is good but you must recognise when not to accept to be helped by pity. Pity mustn't be your helper. It may look good and soothing but you may be tempted to relax from creating something good out of bad experiences.
Your help must only come from God. And it won't come because God is pitying you. Pitying is different from compassion. Compassion has positive energy powering it. Pity has a very negative force or energy powering it. And you don't need such negative energy to prosper.
There was a time a friend gave 100k,(18 years ago or thereabouts)to do business. He gave it so i can return it back. I didn't ask for it,but he felt I was suffering too much and he needed to simply help out. He knows I am business savvy but he wouldn't understand why I decided to do nothing than to tell everyone I was praying. That prayer was my job then. He pitied me and this was how I knew it
.
After collecting the money, he then said it was his mother that pressurised him to help me. His mother told him that he shouldn't keep watching me like that as his friend. At that moment, I discovered the background as to why he decided to give the money without me asking for it. I simply discovered he did it out of pity and not really out of compassion.
Yes,to a normal person, that's a good thing to do. Which I dearly appreciated. But I took the matter to the Lord in prayers and began to cry before God. I said Lord, if this is not a help from you I don't want. Give me my own job.
In the same month, I got a job with official car. So I returned his money to him in the same month. I didn't use it again as God provided job for me already. Much more it was lended to be returned. My friend however did something wonderful, he gave me 20k out of it free of charge to enjoy with.
Don't get me wrong, my parents and my friend did what they felt was right, but it wasn't right at that time before God. Because it was laced with pity.
You don't pity a man who is right with God and isn't lazy.
You don't pity people, you should rather HAVE COMPASSION ON THEM.
When you have genuine compassion on people, the power powering it will always be from God and not from the flesh.
You can even pity a carnal man without God. But a poor Lazarus has a better future than you pitying him. You should be very careful when you are dealing with a spiritual man. He doesn't need pity. He needs genuine compassion and it's eventually for your own good. Because you will definitely meet that poor Lazarus on the other side where what you have done to him will eventually speak for you.
It is not everyone that Jesus healed during his days on earth but only those God directed him to. Yes God loves everyone but emotions don't rule him. He is not a flesh, and if He helps you or moves anyone to help you, you will recognise its not going to be out of pity.
God's compassion on us sometimes come in form of rigorous training through bad experiences. It's not only in good deeds to us he manifest compassion, but even the bad situation can be the compassion if we are sensitive enough. Reason we must not allow anyone to pity us out of such tough training that look like bad experience.
May parents had good motive ,my friend had good motive. Just that such good motives were not good enough for at that time. And it's only a man who is man enough or highly discerning that can stand against what pity was about to do in his life.
This differs from pride please. You must understand how not to be proud before God and men. I became actually proud at a point, believing so much in hardwork until God broke me to pieces and shattered my ego. Then God Himself couldn't send help to me,the help will hate itself.
But not anymore, I have been taught by God after picking my shattered ego together. I now understand hardwork is only the foundation for divine help. No man can succeed only by hardwork but with help of God called grace.
At a point God opened my inner eye to understand that for everyone He sent to help me,it's because He wants to help them too. And this is because I have made myself an altar for Him. An altar where sacrifices are made unto Him everyday in intercession for the church, and souls. You can be an alter too for God. You shouldn't just be a living sacrifice, turn yourself to an altar where living sacrifices are made unto God. Be the blessing.
God is emotional, He feels, He loves,He is compassionate. But He is not controlled by emotions. He doesn't pity. He is a just God. He knows the exact time to train people and when not to train them. If He sends you to help people, it is mostly for your own good and not because of pity but out of compassion.
Men who are chickens are people who who recieve pity and look out for people to pity them.
It is better to cry out loud to God for His compassion, so He can send genuine help. A genuine helper won't pity you because they are under God's control.
A Christian who is in God is thus full of compassion. Rescue the perishing. Do good always. And doesn't circumvent God's process of training people all in the name of compassion which is simply pity.
Is pity not good at all? Yes it's good for the chickens. But for the mature, chastisement with creativity could be compassion.
This doesn't mean you should see people drowning and not rescue them if you can.
To have pity is also a good quality at the level of humanity.
Do not allow the humanity inside you to die before you leave the scene.
May we discern properly.
